Important: Golden Artist Colors provides these recipes as points of departure for exploring Golden products in faux finishing applications.

GOLDEN strongly recommends samples be created before attempting to apply these techniques to walls, some techniques will be difficult to remove or to cover at a later date.

Please contact the technical support team before application if there are concerns or questions at 1-800-959-6543.

Step 1.
Roll Base Coat over surface and allow to dry.

Step 2. Cut the cardboard into a range of widths varying from one inch to four inches in width by three to four inches in length for all of them. Next, make short ¼" cuts into one end of each of the pieces. These cuts should be no longer than ¼" as longer cuts will make it more difficult to draw through the glaze. The distance between the cuts should be random on each of the pieces.

Step 3. Roll the Slate Glaze over the surface. Select a large piece of cardboard. Holding the non-cut end perpendicular to the surface, place the cut end of the cardboard into the glaze. Move the cardboard across the surface using one corner as a pivot point. Gently slide the cardboard in a circular motion, slightly wavering your hand will create the undulating lines typically seen in a malachite pattern. Once the circle is complete, remove the cardboard and use the Badger Brush to soften gently from the center out.
Continue to create these circular patterns until the surface is filled up. Allow the surface to dry when the effect is satisfactory.

Step 4. Roll the Bright Green Glaze over the surface and use the Badger Softening brush to soften in a circular motion. This layer of glaze deepens the finish and adds to the "realistic" appearance. Varnishing with a gloss varnish would add further dimension and realism.
